China's state media provides more detail on Sino-US trade tr

China's state-run media, notably Global Times, supplied more detail on the terms of the trade truce between the US and China, reported Bloomberg.

Beijing Global Times editor Hu Xijin tweeted on Weibo that the deal was just a truce, and that tariffs would still be levied if there was no lasting deal.

 China's commerce ministry said the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump was "very successful" and expressed confidence in implementing the agreement.

 The People's Daily overseas edition explained that China and the US had agreed to work together on issues including widening market access, protecting intellectual property rights, avoiding forced technology transfers and jointly fighting against cyber theft.

China Daily also noted the 90-day period, explaining it was a truce and saying the US would likely escalate the trade war if no permanent deal was achieved.

 Foreign Minister Wang Yi told reporters that China had said it was willing to "expand imports according to the needs of its domestic market and people, including importing marketable products from the US to gradually ease the trade imbalances," adding that both sides had agreed to open their markets to each other.

 China would also "work to gradually resolve the reasonable concerns of the US side." The Chinese statement describes both sides reaching a consensus, with little detail on any actual policy changes.
